Case Study: Bay Area Buy & Sell
Project Type: Web Design & Development
Organization Profile:
Bay Area Buy & Sell (BayAreaBuyandSell.com) entered the classified website space in July of 2001 and envisioned themselves as the premier source for local items up for sale. Selling a car, house, or computer – they wanted to list it.
Project Overview:
Develop an e-commerce solution to handle service fee collecting for user submitted classified listing.
Project Details:
BAB&S’s CEO came to PharSide with a list of things he hated about all of the other online classified listing sites. His idea was that he wasn’t the only person that hated certain things about Yahoo or eBay auctions and even some of the local ones. He figured that once people found out about his local classified site, they would all start flocking too it. With a tight budget and a great idea, he had too find ways to cut corners but offer better functionality to his users than the others.
Technologies Used:
- PHP
- MySQL
- CGI/Perl
- Java
- SSL
Project Features:
- Classified listing program by category
- Paid listings via e-commerce real-time
- Completely scalable for expansion
- Fully integrated admin (admin accounts)
- E-mail newsletter w/ double opt-in tool
- Real-time payment posting to user
Project Solution:
Obviously this site is completely database driven. Our focus of development for the site included instant e-commerce transactions and credit card authorization (using iBill), user sign-up and login, order tracking/processing, and listed item tracking via administration panel. Our design team handled the site’s user interface and all BAB&S logos and corporate identity. Even though this project was on a minimal budget, we were able to deliver a redundant and powerful system. Best of all, we deployed the completed projected on time and under budget.
